  • Honours even: Abdullah Al Jaberi (l) views for possession with Al Wasl's Hazza Salem.

Jorginho’s Al Wasl let slip a two-goal lead to throw away a chance of three points as Al Dhafra twice converted from set pieces to take a share of the spoils at the Zabeel Stadium.

First Abdulraheim Huseein (48) and then Bilal Mohamed Najaren (50) found the back of the net to stun the home crowd five minutes after the break which Wasl had headed into with a comfortable 2-0 lead. Errant marking and lapse concentration allowed both men to nip in and score, much to the fury of the home team’s manager.

Wasl’s Brazilian revolution was in full swing early on as they eased to a 2-0 advantage inside 35 minutes.

New Brazilian signings Neto Berola and Ederson were both on the scoresheet for the home team, to the delight of the Cheetahs’ supporters.

Berola’s sixth minute header from the narrowest of angles gave his new team the lead after the striker peeled off his marker to head home at the back post after being found by a raking ball from fellow debutant, and compatriot, Fabio de Lima out on Wasl’s right wing.

The 26-year-old was heavily involved in the build up to Wasl’s second, inviting a foul just outside the area that drew the free-kick from which Ederson superbly converted. Former Atlético Paranaense man Ederson lifted the ball over the wall from 20-yards on 35 minutes with sublime effect to mark a highly encouraging start for Jorginho’s men.

Berola’s night came to an unfortunate end on 62 minutes however as the forward was taken off on a stretcher clutching his left calf.

Elsewhere, Emirates Club earned a valuable away win over newly promoted Fujairah thanks to Luiz Henrique’s 69th minute winner.

The 33-year-old former Shabab man struck the decisive goal of the game after a delightful lay-off from German Herrera allowed him to find the bottom corner of the near post from 18-yards out.

Fujairah will rue the chances they missed in the first half with Ebraheim Khameis heading over from just ten yards out with the goal at his mercy the best chance of the game.

Majid Bougherra was rarely troubled during his first 45 minutes in a Fujairah shirt with the home side enjoying the lion’s share of possession in the opening period but was found wanting in the build up to Emirates’ goal.
