  • The punisher: Makhete Diop bulldozes through the Al Jazira defence.

Makhete Diop converted a 93rd-minute penalty to secure a fourth-consecutive Arabian Gulf League draw for Al Dhafra and punish another poor defensive display from Al Jazira.

The Senegal international converted from the spot to make it 3-3 after Mussallem Fayez was adjudged to have handled from a corner.

Diop's effort was just reward for the hosts who held tight in a 5-3-2 formation and preyed on the Pride of Abu Dhabi's weaknesses at the back through debutant Youssef Kaddioui, who notched a brace.

Minutes earlier, Jazira's star summer signing Mirko Vucinic had sidefooted in for the second of his second-half double after a sharp one-two with Ali Mabkhout as the visitors appeared set for victory after twice coming from behind.

Coach Anel Karabeg's men stifled Jazira for much of the running and look to have unearthed a gem in Kaddioui.

The Morocco international left Emirates Club earlier this month after only joining in June.

He buzzed across the pitch from his central position next to talisman Makhete Diop, a mixture of silky tricks and endless running. The pair combined for the opener, the former stylishly volleying in a bouncing cross when left unmarked by Jazira centre-back Fayez.

Mabkhout soon fell from the slightest of touches from Saif Mohamed, the defender left perplexed as referee Yaqoub Qasseem Al Hammadi pointed to the spot. Mabkhout stepped up himself but sent his weak attempt low into Abdulla Sultan's arms.

Jazira finally levelled in style. Defensive midfielder Khamis Esmail nonchalantly thundered in a 30-yard free-kick to send the boisterous travelling Jazira support into song.

Seconds later his side's frailty at the back was revealed again, Fayez and centre-back partner Yaser Matar splitting to let the marching Kaddioui slot home.

Boss Eric Gerets was a picture of frustration on the sidelines. The Belgian's mood was soon lifted, Vucininc rising highest to nod in a fine header to level at 2-2.

Victory seemed assured when the ex-Juventus man combined with Mabkhout to find a third. The joy was short-lived, Jazira dropping valuable points in the chase to dethrone Al Ahli at the death.
