Al Ain will today speak to Asamoah Gyan before deciding whether to make a formal complaint to the AFC over alleged racial abuse of their striker.
Gyan accused Al Hilal’s Mihai Pintilii of abusing him after his sending off during Al Ain’s 2-1 Champions League semi-final second-leg win over the Saudi side on Tuesday, which saw the Boss exit the competition 4-2 on aggregate.
The Ghanaian was dismissed with 20 minutes remaining after an ugly scissor tackle on Al Hilal’s Salem al-Dawsari and as he left the field Romanian midfielder Pintilii was seen to shout at him.
Gyan claimed after the game that Pintilii, who he described as Hilal’s “No25”, said: “something he had no right to tell me.”
He then added: “He knows what he said, you can ask him. He knows what he said.”
Gyan yesterday posted a message on his Twitter account stating “it happened” with a link to an article on his official website claiming he was subjected to “racist abuse”.
Al Ain’s players were given the day off yesterday and will return to training today where club officials expect to speak to Gyan and get the full story.
A meeting will then be held to determine whether the player and the club have justification to make a formal complaint to the AFC.
