  • Falling into place: Bani Yas' star man Joan Verdu.

The new dawn for the Sky Blues has arrived, a winless Arabian Gulf League run under Spanish boss Luis Garcia ending at the sixth time of asking.

The relief as the entire coaching staff embraced and roared with joy when substitute Ahmed Ali struck both second-half goals against Al Shabab was clear for all to see.

It could, and probably should, have been much more difficult for Bani Yas. The 2-0 victory owed to suspect officiating, a first-half injury and the woodwork despite the hosts edging the overall play.

But Garcia will not mind after previous breaks did not fall his way. They now, finally, have a platform to build on.

Shabab have already beaten champions Al Ahli this term. A true scalp has been claimed.

Garcia's side remain a work in progress. There is much to admire in the sharpness of playmaker Joan Verdu's mind, effervescent wingers Saleh Haboush and Bandar Al Ahbabi plus the drive of centre midfielder Amer Abdulrahman.

Important cogs are falling into place. Al Ahbabi is getting up to speed after being away at the Asian Games, South Korea midfielder Kim Jung-woo has returned to training after injury and Garcia now possesses the tall striker he so publicly craved in Denis Stracqualursi.

Sacking season is well under way in the AGL. Anel Karabeg and Jorginho thought they deserved patience at Al Dhafra and Al Wasl.

And this result has earned Garcia precious time, beginning with Thursday's trip to Gabriel Calderon's Cheetahs.

His players huddled together before the start of the second-half. An important demonstration of unity.

The script could have been very different.

Moldova international Henrique Luvannor has shone for Shabab since joining this summer. He was fated not to secure a fourth top-flight strike.

A breakthrough seemed to have been secured past the half-hour mark when he nodded in on the far post. His joy was painfully short-lived as the assistant waved for either a non-existent offside or soft push from Edgar.

The frustration continued in injury-time before the break as he crashed a 30-yard free-kick against the crossbar.

A turning point had, however, been previously reached. Ali being summoned from the bench to replace injured fellow UAE international Saleh Haboush.

He was the sharpest on 55 minutes as debutant Stracqualursi's header was spilled to him two metres from the goal-line.

From the mundane, came the spectacular.

Ali picked the ball up from 30 yards out, his fleet of foot causing the Shabab defence to collapse as he danced through to slide home the killer second.

Elsewhere, Al Ain's strong start to the season continued at the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium with a convincing 3-1 win over Al Dhafra.

Star striker Asamoah Gyan watched from the bench as Zlatko Dalic's side strolled to victory thanks to goals from Miroslav Stoch, Jires Kembo Ekoko and Mohanad Salem.

Stoch's first-half strike and Ekoko's second-half effort were the pair's fourth goals of of the season.

Mohanad Salem also netted in the second fourty-five.

Already trailing three-nil, Saif Mohamed hit back for Al Dhafra but his effort proved fruitless.

Al Ain now have three wins from their first four matches while Dhafra have ended their record of drawing every AGL game so far this season and remain without a win in the league.
