  • Returning hero: Ismail Matar (r) may well feature from the start against Fujairah.

Arabian Gulf League leaders Al Wahda are determined to cut out the mistakes and get back to winning ways in tonight’s clash with Fujairah, according to coach Jose Peseiro.

The Clarets have drawn their last two matches against Al Wasl and Ajman, cutting their advantage at the top to just one point.

Defensive rock Hamdan Al Kamali has been out for the last fortnight with a torn hamstring, with the UAE centre-back set to be joined on the sidelines for the visit of Fujairah by midfielder Adil Hermach who will serve a one-match suspension.

Despite the recent issues, Peseiro retained belief that his charges will excel at Al Nahyan Stadium.

He said: “It’s true that we have been conceding goals in recent games, and this is due to a technical change we’ve made in our defence, but we are working on achieving better harmony in our back line and eliminating these errors in future.”

Although Fujairah sit just outside the relegation spots in 12th place, Abdulwahab Abdulkader’s men have excelled against the division’s leading sides.

They claimed a 1-1 draw with champions Al Ahli and played out a 2-2 thriller at Al Jazira.

“I have great confidence in my players who are accustomed to showing great character when facing the big teams and pulling off positive results,” the Iraqi said.

The evening’s other game sees Al Shabab travel to Emirates Club.

A sizeable victory for the former could see them move into top spot if other results go their way.
