  • The Technical Committee adopted specific criteria in the selection of this year’s nominees.

The Technical Committee of the Pro League Committee has announced the 10 categories which are to be honoured at the 2014/15 Arabian Gulf League Awards, and the voting criteria and processes to determine the winners of each category.

The categories of Emirati Player of the Year, Foreign Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Best XI, Top Scorer, Professional Club of the Year, Fans’ Player of the Year and Fantasy Football Manager of the Year will all be contested, with various different voting methods to decide the winners.

For Industry Voting, the Technical Committee will nominate 14 candidates for Emirati Player of the Year, 13 candidates for Foreign Player of the Year, 5 candidates for Coach of the Year, 5 candidates for Goalkeeper of the Year, and 4 candidates for Rookie of the Year, and these candidate lists will be shared with the Coach, Team Manager and Team Captain of each of the 14 Arabian Gulf League clubs to cast their votes, as well as being sent to Media Representatives to have their say.

The Industry Voters will be required to rank their Top 5 choices in each of the above categories, with 1st place being awarded 5 points and 5th place 1 point. All points from the Industry Vote will be tallied to determine the winner of each category.

The Technical Committee adopted specific criteria in the selection of this year’s nominees, stipulating that any Emirati player must have played a minimum of 60% of his side’s League games in order to be nominated, whilst any Foreign player or Goalkeeper is required to have featured in 80% of his team’s matches, and any Coach must have been in the dugout for 70% of the League fixtures.

During the selection process, players will also be subjected to points deductions for any yellow cards (1 point), red cards (2 points) and suspensions (2 points for every game missed), whilst for coaches, points will be added based on the number of games won under the direction of the coach, whilst 2 points will be deducted for each penalty or fine issued against the coach.

The League’s Top Scorer will be selected based on clear statistics of how many goals the player scored in the League, and in the case of a tie between two players, the player who scored more goals away from home will be the winner.

Professional Club of the Year will be selected based on the Club Licensing rankings, whilst the club’s efforts towards off-the-pitch initiatives involving management, media, marketing and adherence to regulations will also be taken into consideration, whilst any Quality Control Points will count negatively.

The Fans’ Player of the Year Award will be selected by public vote, with fans able to cast their votes via Twitter and Instagram @AGLeague and via an SMS voting line, whilst the Fantasy Football Manager of the Year trophy will be handed to the highest-scoring user of the official Arabian Gulf League Fantasy Football game at the end of the 26 round of the League.
