Sharjah interim coach Abdulaziz Al Anbari was denied a victorious start to his reign as 10-man Al Dhafra held out for a goalless draw last night.

The former King player was in the dugout for the first time after Brazilian Paulo Bonamigo mutually agreed to exit the club on Monday with his side consigned to the relegation zone.

His side remain in the bottom two after a match of few chances, in which home skipper Abdulrahim Jumaa saw a first-half effort ruled out for offside and team-mate David Barral was dismissed for kicking out on 75 minutes.

“For me, my focus was more on our work in recent days on the defensive side of the game than the offensive,” said Al Anbari. “This is a new era for the team and I need time.”

Veteran Jumaa was denied the breakthrough because of a narrow offside call during an opening 45 minutes which saw the Western Knights dominate possession at their own Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan Stadium.

Little else of note occured before the flashpoint between ex-Levante star Barral and Abdulla Ghanem, a flick out from the Spaniard being punished by referee Mohammed Obaid Khadim.

Sharjah attempted to make the most of their numerical advantage, but striker Wanderley was one of several players to be denied a vital winner by tremendous defending from the desperate third-bottom hosts.
