Missed out on registering for the Glow & Go! 5k Fun Run? Don’t worry, you can still attend as a spectator and enjoy the event’s unique party environment at Wadi Adventure in Al Ain on Friday night.
The run is scheduled to get under way at 20:00 and organisers say the park will be thrown open to spectators for free.
Unlike traditional Wadi Adventure races, participants will have to tackle various obstacles. To add some fun elements to the event, paint and water pistols will be used to drench the runners. The run will culminate in a pool party.
Runners will be given glow sticks and neon clothing and organisers will set up black-light areas, adding to the vibe.
The run is the brainchild of Nora Hassan, Wadi Adventure sales and marketing manager, whose creative thinking is providing a new twist to running.
“I wanted to do something different that is more inclusive of everyone,” she said. “We wanted something unique that would draw a lot of attention. Of course, we all know how hot it is in the UAE in the summer, so we thought it would be perfect to have this type of race at night.”
Red Bull will DJ the party and give out drinks, along with sponsors Activelife, who will hand out tons of giveaways with items like T-shirts.
There will also be a variety of activities on the beach for participants and spectators to indulge in during the night.
“The point of the race is to promote a healthy and active lifestyle, so we’ve made it more of party atmosphere,” said Hassan. “There are a lot of cool features that we’ve added to the race. It’s pretty unique as well, there’s nothing really like it in the UAE.
“We wanted to make it very inclusive of everyone, so whether they are participants or spectators, everyone’s going to have a great time. The race does go through Wadi Adventure, so all the spectators will get to watch a good portion of the entire race as well and hang out with the participants afterwards.”
Hassan believes the run will be a success and is hoping to do more events in the future combining healthy living with having a fun time.
“Wadi Adventure is such a unique facility, that we are open to lots of creative ideas,” said Hassan. “So, whether we go with this one again or we think of another completely outrageous, wacky, fun event, we could go with something else as well.
“If it sets off and it goes well, it’s definitely something we’d want to do every year. But we have events and races that go on throughout the year so this is just the first step in doing something fun and different.”
