ONE Fighting Championship phenomenon Shinya Aoki insists he has no immediate plans for a switch to Ultimate Fighting Championship, after making light work of Kamal Shalorus at Friday’s stunning Dubai World Trade Centre event.
Approximately 5,000 fans piled into Sheikh Rashid Hall as One FC made their UAE debut.
Friday’s result stretched 31-year-old Aoki’s record to 36 wins, six defeats and one no contest.
Asked whether he would consider a switch to United States’ UFC despite rejecting their overtures last November, Aoki said: “It was a tough fight, in which I completely dominated my opponent. In regards to any wish about fighting in the UFC, I am not sure.”
Meanwhile, MMA legend Roger Huerta defied all odds upon his return to the ONE FC ring after two years away enduring gruelling training at Thailand’s Tiger Muay Thai training camp to smash previously undefeated British lightweight Christian Holley.
The 31-year-old showed his timeless class to win by a first-round TKO. Huerta revealed he had not expected such a convincing triumph against an opponent with a previously flawless 10-0-0 record.
“It was a little surreal you know,” he said. “We have a lot of savages in our camp at Tiger Muay Thai so I didn’t think this guy (Holley) was going to do anything to me that I hadn’t seen before.”
One FC have agreed to a number of dates in Dubai, with talks about a potential return to the city at the start of 2015 under way.
