  • Heavy hitters: Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista (r) will be seen in action at the Duel in Dubai.

Philippines boxing is hitting the UAE with high quality fighters taking to the ring in Pinoy Pride 27: Duel in Dubai.

Taking place at Dubai World Trade Centre this coming Friday, Duel in Dubai is being brought to the region by the Philippines premier world-class boxing organisation, ALA Promotions. The fight card features three ALA competitors – Genesis “Azukal” Servania, Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista and “King” Arthur Villanueva.

Servania headlines the event as the reigning World Boxing Organisation (WBO) inter-continental super bantamweight champion and WBO Asia Pacific “Fighter of the Year”, boasting a perfect 24-0 record with 10 knockouts.

The 23-year-old Bacolod City native has won by knockout in four of his last five fights, including his most recent victory over two-time WBA junior bantamweight titleholder Alexander Munoz earlier this year in May.

In the main event, Servania will defend his title against Mexican challenger Jose “Matador” Cabrera, who is 22-4-2 with 10 KOs.

Hailing from Nuevo Laredo, the 27-year-old Cabrera is looking to amend the loss in his previous bout when he was knocked out by Tomas Rojas in March.

In the supporting main event, Bautista continues his comeback bid after retiring in 2013 following his loss to Jose Ramirez in which he conceded the WBO international featherweight title.

He made a successful return to the ring with a unanimous decision win over Sergio Villanueva in May, but the 28-year-old will be in for a test against World Boxing Council (WBC) Mundo Hispano super featherweight champion Jose Juan “Piquet” Martinez, who holds a 19-1 record with 15 wins by KO.

The undercard will showcase undefeated Arthur Villanueva and Nicaraguan Henry “El Crespo” Maldonado for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior bantamweight title.

Villanueva, 25, is 25-0 with 14 KOs and is coming off an unanimous decision over Fernando Aguilar in March. Maldonado, meanwhile, has a 19-3 mark with 14 KOs, including winning his last three fights by either KO or technical knockout.

Tickets for the event can be purchased online at tickets.virginmegastore.me and though the Gold and VIP section are sold out, entry is still available in the Silver category for Dh70 and in the VVIP are for Dh300.

The fights start at 19:00 and doors open at 17:00.

With young talent and competitive action on hand, Duel in Dubai is sure to deliver a knockout.
