  • Bring it on: Amir Khan is desperate to get in the ring with Floyd Mayweather.

British boxing star Amir Khan has wasted little time in calling out Floyd Mayweather following the unbeaten American's victory over Marcos Maidana in Las Vegas on Sunday morning.

Mayweather extended his flawless record to 47 wins when he outboxed and outclassed his Argentine opponent at the MGM Grand in front of a crowd of 17,000 that included Khan.

It was the second time Mayweather had triumphed over Maidana following their barnstorming first encounter in May – a bout many expected to be handed to Khan before 'Money' opted to fight Maidana.

Khan has also shared a ring with Maidana – their December 2010 showdown going down as an all-time classic – and the former Olympian has urged Mayweather to stop running from him and set up the fight.

"After seeing him win I believe I will beat him," Khan said.

"Floyd, as we all know, isn't the biggest puncher. His footwork has slowed down, he only throws single punches and gets hit a lot more. We all know Maidana isn't the quickest, and he still got through with shots.

"Now it makes sense why the fight isn't happening between me and Mayweather. Is he afraid of the speed, explosiveness and power? Floyd – let's get it on!"

Leonard Ellerbe, chief executive of Mayweather Promotions, revealed Khan is a possible candidate for Mayweather's next opponent, but insisted there were a host of fighters they would be considering for next May.

"Of course, Amir Khan would be a potential opponent," Ellerbe said. "Amir Khan is a very good fighter just like a lot of other potential opponents."

The fight all fans are desperate to see Mayweather take is with Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao.

The eight-weight world champion responded to his brutal knockout defeat by Juan Manuel Marquez in 2012 by beating Brandon Rios before avenging his controversial loss to Timothy Bradley by putting on a masterclass to dismantle the previously unbeaten American.

And speaking in his post-fight interview, Mayweather claimed that he would be interested in taking on Pacquiao.

"I got to go back and talk to my team, I'm not ducking or dodging no opponent," he said. "If a Pacquiao fight presents itself, let's make it happen."
