  • UAE were dismissed for just 102 in defeat to India

UAE captain Mohammad Tauqir felt that more than the pace and bounce of the wicket in Perth, it was the fact that India were far superior in all aspects of the game which led to their massive loss in the Group B match yesterday.

A disappointed Tauqir said: “It is one of the most difficult wickets in the world. I think it got a lot of bounce and carry.

“They outplayed us, especially with their bowling. They bowled at some excellent areas, and we couldn’t keep up with that. “We learned a lot. But as I have said before, we need to do the basics right. I think the most basic thing is to play all 50 overs. We got out in 30 odd overs, which was not good.UAE batsmen had little answer to India's bowling prowess

“The batters need to be more responsible and learn from their mistakes and play all 50 overs in the next game. “We have done that in the previ – ous two games, and we need to do that again.”

Tauqir was full of praise for the bowling of off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who broke the back of the UAE’s middle order.

“You saw the results yourself. I don’t need to say that. He took four wickets, he bowled extremely well,” said Tauqir. “More than his turn, I think it was the bounce that was creating a problem for us. He was getting some very good bounce, and yes, of course he bowled to a very good line and length.

“Compared to our earlier matches, the Indian team is more professional. They have a better spin attack than the Irish or the Zimbabweans.

“The wicket also helped them in getting us all out, but we really got outplayed by the spin attack more than the fast bowlers.”

The UAE will play their next Pool B match against Pakistan in Napier on Wednesday
