  • Danube Lions dished out another clinical display at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium to lay their hands on the 4th Al-Aqili Ramadan Trophy.

In the final on Thursday night, the Lions coasted to a six-wicket win over Yogi Group. They began by first restricting Yogi to 140-9 with spinners Rohan Mustafa and Yasir Shah doing most of the damage.

While captain Mustafa claimed three wickets for 39 runs, Pakistan international Shah dismissed two batsmen for 25 runs. Zahoor Khan, who opened the attack was equally impressive picking up two wickets for 19 runs in his four overs.

Opener Shahzad Manna (25 runs off 28 balls) and K Jaykishan (40 runs off 25 balls) were the bright spots in an otherwise ordinary display by the Yogi batsmen.

The only worthwhile partnership was of 40 runs for the second wicket between Manna and captain Swapnil Patil (12). But once Shah dismissed them, the Yogi innings lost way as seven wickets fell for the addition of 91 runs.

In reply, opener Prashant Braggs (40 runs off 26 balls) and No3 Samiullah Younis (41 runs off 34 balls) laid the platform for the Lions with a 63-run partnership for the second wicket.

Yasir Shah (28 not out off 23 balls) carried forward the good work of the earlier batsmen as Lions crossed the finish line in the 17th over.

Yogi captain Swapnil Patil pressed eight bowlers into service but the Lions batsmen stood their ground and ensured success. Shah was adjudged man of the match for his all-round display.

David East, CEO of Emirates Cricket Board, Saleh Al Aqili (charmain) and Saeed Al Aqili (vice chairman) of Al Aqili Group, Wajahat Husain (president), Inam Ul Haq (secretary) and Shahnawaz Hakim (operations manager) of Abu Dhabi Cricket Council were present during the presensation ceremony.
