Simona Halep’s long wait for a Grand Slam is finally over after she beat Sloane Stephens in three sets to win the French Open on Saturday.

The World No.1 finally got her hands on the Coupe Suzanne-Lenglen trophy following her 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 triumph over the American.

Mohamed Salah sent a message to Egypt’s president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi that his recovery is going well ahead of the World Cup.

The Liverpool star suffered a shoulder injury in the 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in last month’s Champions League final but looks set to be fit for their first World Cup appearance in 1990. Read the full story here.

Away from the World Cup, Nabil Fekir’s expected move to Liverpool has been put on hold over fitness concerns. The Lyon man underwent a medical at Anfield on Friday and already agreed terms with the Champions League runners-up but a medical concern cropped up. More on that story is here.

England captain Eoin Morgan said his team will be on high alert when they begin their white-ball season against Scotland on Sunday.

Morgan’s team begin their World Cup preparation with an ODI in Edinburgh. “They are an extremely competitive side and we are looking forward to it,” Morgan said.

Arjun Tendulkar, son of India batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, took his first steps towards national cricket when he was named in India‘s Under-19 squad for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.

It is understandable Arjun will be compared to his father with expectations sky high. However, Arjun does have a few advantages at the beginning of his career that his father didn’t have. Here we look at them.

10.38am: Mitchell Starc says his comments were taken ‘out of context’

Australian spearhead Mitchell Starc has issued a strong statement responding to reports he criticised banned teammates Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft at a corporate function, insisting his comments were taken out of context.

Earlier this week Starc spoke at a Women in Banking and Finance forum in Sydney  and was quoted appearing to criticise Smith and Bancroft for their initial press conference in Cape Town after being accused of ball-tampering.

South Africa v India - T20 International

Cricket South Africa announced a new T20 league in place of the failed T20 Global League. South Africa’s original plan of a T20 league, announced last year, failed to take off following numerous logistical and commercial issues.

South Africa hope to have the tournament in November-December this year and have teamed up with broadcaster SuperSport to launch the league.

2:49pm – Mixed results at The Oval for Australian Aboriginal XI squads against Surrey

2018 Aboriginal XI squads had mixed results on Thursday at The Oval as part of their 1868 commemoration tour with the women’s squad going down to Surrey by 36 runs before the men’s squad survived a late fightback to defeat the Surrey XI by five runs.

1:22pm – Sachin Tendulkar says Under 19 selection important milestone for his son Arjun

Former India batsman Sachin Tendulkar‘s son Arjun was selected in the India Under 19 side for the two four-day games in Sri Lanka, on Friday.

18-year old Arjun is a tall left-arm fast bowler and a handy middle-order batsman. He has trained under former India fast bowler Subroto Banerjee, his father’s close friend.

Arjun has bowled at the India nets in the recent past while also taking part in a camp for fast bowlers organised by the BCCI at Dharamsala.

11:15am – Australia off to winning start on tour of England thanks to Marcus Stoinis century

Marcus Stoinis’ century guided Australia to an underwhelming 57-run victory over Sussex as they returned to action for the first time since March’s ball-tampering scandal.

Stoinis pressed his claims for Australia’s number three slot for the five-match one-day series against England by blasting a pivotal 110 at Hove.

A tepid Australia performance will have frustrated new head coach Justin Langer and skipper Tim Paine however, with Sussex’s inaccurate batting blowing the chance for a famous victory.
