  • Dinesh Chandimal (C) is appealing the decision

Sri Lanka skipper Dinesh Chandimal has appealed the one-match ban given to him, the ICC confirmed on Thursday.

The batsman was charged by the on-field umpires Aleem Dar, Ian Gould and third umpire Richard Kettleborough after the third day’s play against West Indies after video evidence showed he put lollies in his mouth and then used saliva to shine the ball.

“Dinesh Chandimal has appealed against the match referee’s findings that saw him suspended for one Test after being found guilty of changing the condition of the ball,” the ICC said on its Twitter handle.

It means the 28-year-old will not miss the third Test of the series while the ICC will have to appoint a Judicial Commissioner to hear the case.
