  • Joe Root and Eoin Morgan were unshakable in England's win.

It’s all to play for as England and India meet again at Headingley for the third and final ODI – with the series delicately poised at 1-1. England won the toss and elected to bowl, Eoin Morgan’s side making one change with the injured Jason Roy replaced by James Vince in the line-up.

For India, Virat Kohli has made three changes to his team with medium pacers Siddarth Kaul, Umesh Yadav and batsman KL Rahul making way for Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shardul Thakur and Dinesh Karthik.

India’s openers got off to a cautious start in the decider with Rohit Sharma ultimately perishing for just two runs after trying to take on David Willey. Shikhar Dhawan and skipper Virat Kohli then formed a promising partnership before the former was run-out by Ben Stokes for 44.

Kohli then went on to register another ODI half-century, taking 55 balls to get to the landmark. Soon after, Dinesh Karthik was bowled by Adil Rashid for 21. The Englishman struck again by clean-bowling Kohli for 71 with a ripper of a leg-spinner before he dismissed Suresh Raina in the same over. Hardik Pandya was the next to fall after he was caught behind off the bowling of Mark Wood. In the end, it took a couple of lusty blows from the bat of pacer Shardul Thakur to take India to 256-8 in their 50 overs.

In reply, Jonny Bairstow gave England an explosive start with a 13-ball 30 before he was dismissed by Thakur in the fifth over. James Vince was the next to fall for a run-a-ball 27 after the opener was run-out by Hardik Pandya. England collected 78 runs from the powerplay, their highest in the series. Both Root and Morgan went on to register half-centuries as they formed an unbeaten 186-run stand to lead England to a crushing eight-wicket win to clinch the series.
