  • India's home season has been announced by the BCCI

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday announced the Indian cricket team’s home season fixtures for 2016-17. India are slated to host New Zealand, England, Australia and Bangladesh over the next 10 months and will play 13 Tests, eight ODIs and three T20Is.

While only once in the history of Indian cricket has this many home Tests been played in a season (1979-80), the BCCI’s announcement also carries the news that Rajkot, Visakhapatnam, Pune, Dharamsala, Ranchi and Indore will be the newest additions in the list of Indian Test venues.

The season begins with three Tests and five ODIs against New Zealand and following the Kiwis will be the arrival of England, who’ll be taking part in a gruelling series comprising of five Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is.

It will be England’s first visit to India since their successful outing in 2012.

And then, in February and March 2017, India will play host to Australia and are scheduled to play four Tests. It’ll be the first time that the Baggy Green will be visiting India for a Test series since their 2013 whitewash. Virat Kohli’s side are also scheduled to host Bangladesh in a one-off Test later this year for a trophy that is reportedly going to be named after former India captain Sourav Ganguly.

    Venues:

New Zealand: Indore, Kanpur and Kolkata (Tests); Dharamsala, Delhi, Mohali, Ranchi and Vizag (ODIs).

England: Mohali, Rajkot, Mumbai, Vizag and Chennai (Tests); Pune, Cuttack and Kolkata (ODIs); Bengaluru, Nagpur and Kanpur (T20Is).

Australia: Bengaluru, Dharamsala, Ranchi and Pune (Tests).
