  • Suresh Raina will be playing in the Duleep Trophy instead

The BCCI have announced the squad for the two T20Is against West Indies later this month. Both teams are currently playing the four-match Test series in the Caribbean, but will fly out to the United States to take part in the T20 leg of the tour in Florida.

After sending a second-string side to tour Zimbabwe in June, the BCCI have selected a full strength side for this series against the reigning T20 champions. Led by MS Dhoni and comprising the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin, the squad is almost identical to the side that played in the World T20 earlier this year.

KL Rahul, included in the side, has been rewarded for his brilliant run of form. Rahul had an impressive IPL season and has followed it up with strong performances in Zimbabwe and West Indies.

India have chosen to go with four fast bowlers in Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Umesh Yadav. Ishant Sharma currently representing India in the Test series has missed out, while Stuart Binny included as the only fast bowling all-rounder.

Amit Mishra and Ravindra Jadeja have been picked as the two other spinners alongside Ashwin.

The notable exclusions from the squad are Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina, both of whom were part of India’s World T20 squad. The senior pros however, will be taking part in the Duleep Trophy, leading India Red and India Green respectively.

The West Indian team will be led by their new T20 captain Carlos Brathwaite, who rose to fame after playing a match-winning knock against England in the T20 final.

The WICB Chairman of the selectors Courtney Browne said, “Brathwaite is one of the most talented players in the T20 format of the game and his humble and committed approach to the game can inspire young and upcoming players. We are looking forward to a competitive series against India in these matches.”

The two T20Is will be played on August 27 and 28 at Central Broward Regional Park, Florida.
