Yadav has often been criticised for being very inconsistent with his line and length which has seen him underperform through most of his Test career so far. But recently, there seems to be a change.
In the ongoing Test series between India and England, Umesh has not picked up many wickets but his bowling has impressed many including the Indian think-tank, who despite Ishant Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar regaining fitness, have decided to stick with the Vidarbha fast bowler.
In fact, if not for a number of dropped catches, the 29-year-old would have definitely had more English scalps. Umesh, though, is not too bothered by the dropped chances.
“It happens in cricket, we take some fine catches at times. At other times, we let simple ones go. It’s okay for me, I am not greatly affected by it,” he said.

Umesh added that he has been working on improving his line and length with head coach Anil Kumble and assistant coach Sanjay Bangar.
“I was just working on my line and length with Sanjay (Bangar) and Anil (Kumble). They just tell me to do what I need to do, they work on my bowling and I think I am getting better and better. I just wanted to bowl the right line and length,” said Umesh.
“My plan is simple; matches, practice and focus on what I want to do, play to my areas of strength. I just want to keep learning how to bowl in pressure situations.”
The right-arm pacer picked up two wickets – Haseeb Hameed and Chris Woakes – as India restricted England to 268/8 on day one of the third Test at Mohali.
