After scoring a triple century in just the third Test of his career, Indian batsman Karun Nair hailed it as the best one of his career across domestic and international cricket so far.

Nair didn’t have the best of starts to his Test career, having being dismissed for just four and 13 in the Mohali and Mumbai Tests respectively, but made full use of his opportunity in Chennai.

“It’s the best knock of my life. There were many situations in the middle where I had to play differently with Rahul, Ashwin and Jadeja. They supported me well and kept egging me on,” said Nair. “The first hundred is always important.”

There were a lot of doubts if Nair will be allowed to reach his triple century as it looked like India could declare and give themselves more than a handful overs at England on day four.

But Indian captain Virat Kohli gave Nair enough time to get to the 300-run mark and the Jodhpur-born batsman was thankful for that.

“Message was to go after the bowling. We had a set number of overs in mind. When I got closer, they pushed the deadline a bit and I want to thank the management for it,” he added.

The 25-year-old also spoke about Karnataka team-mate KL Rahul who was dismissed for 199 on Sunday: “Rahul was unlucky not to get 200, he will get one soon.”
