  • Rahul Dravid worked with the Delhi Daredevils.

With Karun Nair and Jayant Yadav coming into the Indian Test team and grabbing their opportunities with both hands, India have built one of the best bench strengths in world cricket.

India A and U-19 coach Rahul Dravid has received a lot of praise for the same with the former Indian batsman credited for helping the young cricketers transform into international cricketers seamlessly.

Both Nair and Yadav have played under Dravid for India A as well as the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year. Nair, in fact, had also worked with Dravid at the Rajasthan Royals before the franchise was given a two-year suspension.

“It is the hard work which has been put in by these young cricketers, but also the efforts of Rahul Dravid who has been bestowed the responsibility of nurturing them at U-19 level and India A,” said BCCI President Anurag Thakur after Nair’s triple century on Monday.

Speaking to bcci.tv, Nair mentioned that the India A’s tour to Australia helped him a lot. Nair plays for the same state team (Karnataka) as Dravid did in domestic cricket.

“I think the India A tour helps really as there is a big gap between the Ranji Trophy and international cricket. The India A series kind of fills that void,” said Nair.

“Rahul sir has always been of a big help to me. I’ve been with him since the Rajasthan Royal days. He has always backed me.”

In October, Hardik Pandya had also credited Dravid for reshaping his career after winning the Man of the Match award on his ODI debut.
