  • Damaged friendship?

After winning the Test series 2-1, Virat Kohli had spoken about how his friendship with the Australian cricketers had changed following the hotly-contested series.

However, on Thursday, the India captain took to Twitter to clarify that his statements were blown ‘way out of proportion.’

In the tweets, Kohli had mentioned that he was referring only to a couple of players and not the entire Australian team.

Steve Smith, attending a promotional event for the Rising Pune Supergiants in Delhi, said: “I don’t know if I am one of those couple of players Virat was hinting at in his tweet today. That is for Virat to answer.”

The Test number one batsman is set to captain the Pune-based team in the Indian Premier League, which kicks off on April 5.

“For me, the series (India-Australia) is done and dusted and India have outplayed us. I am now ready to lead a new bunch for my IPL franchise,” he added.

When asked to compare Kohli’s and Ajinkya Rahane’s captaincy styles, Smith said: “Rahane was cool and collected on the field while Kohli was aggressive and emotional.”

Rahane was the stand-in skipper for India in the decider of the Test series at Dharamsala as Kohli had to sit out due to a shoulder injury.
