  • Pujara was dismissed for 9 runs in the first innings.

It wasn’t the best of starts to Cheteshwar Pujara’s life with Yorkshire in the English County Division One Championship.

The India man was dismissed for just two runs in his maiden innings for Yorkshire in their clash with Nottinghamshire at Headingley in Leeds.

After Nottinghamshire elected to field first, Yorkshire lost their opener Alex Lees fairly cheaply with Jake Ball claiming the wicket to bring Pujara to the crease.

The right-handed batsman’s stay at the crease lasted just 15 balls as he became the first of four batsmen to be dismissed by pacer Luke Fletcher. Pujara was trapped plumb on the pads by the Englishman.

Yorkshire were bowled out for just 256 runs in their first innings before three quick wickets by Jack Brooks reduced Nottinghamshire to 54-4 by the time stumps were called on the first day.

Incidentally, Pujara had turned out for Nottinghamshire last year where he had helped the side earn promotion to the top division.

Pujara is one of three Indian players currently plying their trade in the English first-class competition. Ishant Sharma at Sussex and Varun Aaron at Leicestershire are the other two compatriots currently playing in England.

With India set to tour England in the summer, skipper Virat Kohli is expected to sign for a County outfit too upon the completion of the IPL while Ravichandran Ashwin remains in discussions for a stint as well.
