  • Fans in Pakistan carried out a rally in Peshawar supporting West Indies all-rounder Darren Sammy and demanding his return to the national team.

Sammy has not played for the West Indies since the World T20 final win over England in 2016. He featured in two T20 matches for the World XI against Pakistan in September.

The 34-year-old’s international career is going nowhere but he has fans in Pakistan who want to see him in West Indies colours again.

Fans arranged a rally at the Gymkhana area of Peshawar and carried several placards and posters supporting the all-rounder.

Sammy, captain of PSL team Peshawar Zalmi, is seen as the international ambassador of cricket in Pakistan with the St Lucia native going out of his way to push for the return of meaningful and substantial international cricket to Pakistan. He has featured in PSL matches in Pakistan and was also part of the World XI team that toured the country late last year.

Pakistan play world champions West Indies in three back-to-back Twenty20 internationals in Karachi starting from Sunday.
