  • Drenched: Heavy rain led to stumps being called early on day two.

England were 237 for six in reply to India's first innings 152, a lead of 85 runs, at stumps on a rain-affected second day of the fourth Test at Old Trafford on Friday.

Joe Root was 48 not out and Jos Buttler 22 not out when rain stopped play at 2:15pm local time (1315GMT).

Even though the sun subsequently came out and most of the outfield was dried, two muddied areas down by the boundary rope in front of the players' dressing rooms gave the officials cause for concern.

After several inspections, umpires Rod Tucker and Marais Erasmus abandoned play for the day at 5:39pm (1639GMT).

The five-match series is level at 1-1.
