  • Back with a bang: Shikhar Dhawan was superb alongside Ajinkya Rahane.

Having dismissed England for 206, there were not many predicting a home victory at the halfway mark, considering India’s recent form.

It was clear after the first innings, that India were going to emerge victorious, bar a miraculous turnaround and the question was centred around how convincing their victory would be.

Rahane's maiden ODI century lit up the match with his awe-inspiring knock, but inside the Indian dressing room and amongst fan circles, there were many breathing a sigh of relief to see Shikhar Dhawan back to his best.

He has been through a very rough patch over the course of the summer in England and, being the important figure that he is in the India side, his bad form hurt his team's chances considerably.

But with the chants of “Dhawan-Dhawan” echoing around a packed Edgbaston stadium, he hit the final ball of the match straight over the bowler’s head for a six to seal the series for India.

It was followed by the Dhawan signature twirling of the moustache and, unbeaten on 97 having hit a confident flurry of shots towards the end of the innings, Dhawan announced his return in style and just in the nick of time.
