  • Jake Ball.

England and Nottinghamshire seamer Jake Ball will miss the remainder of the county season because of a back injury.

The 27-year-old, whose international career has comprised of four Tests, 18 one-dayers and two Twenty20s, sustained the problem in the Vitality Blast game against Derbyshire earlier this month.

Ball will therefore be absent for the Outlaws’ quarter-final at Somerset on Sunday, as well as the final four County Championship matches of the campaign.

“I’m extremely disappointed to get the news, I’d hoped to be back for the final parts of the season but unfortunately that isn’t possible,” Ball told Nottinghamshire’s official website.

“I’ll be following and supporting the boys and hopefully we can get through to Finals Day and have a go at defending our title.

“For me I’ll be working hard on my rehab so that I can have a full winter programme and be raring to go for next season.”

Ball has featured in all three formats for England in the last 12 months but seems to have slipped behind several bowlers at Test level.

He remains on the fringes of the limited-overs sides, though, playing in the final T20s against India last month.
