  • Bowing out in style: Singh hopes to claim a win in his final game for the U19s.

UAE captain Rohit Singh says his side wants to end the tournament on a winning note when they take on Zimbabwe on Thursday, for what will be his final match for the Under-19s.

The two sides clash in the 11/12th Place Play-Off in the Plate Championship at Abu Dhabi Oval 1, and after beating them by six wickets in their warm-up match earlier this month, Singh is hoping for another positive result.

“We played Zimbabwe once and we beat them and now we are quite ready for them,” said Singh, whose side suffered a five-wicket loss to New Zealand on Tuesday.

“We were ranked 16th before the tournament started and we are now in the top 12 and I hope we come 11th.”

UAE coach Aaqib Javed agrees with Singh by insisting the team’s morale has not been dented despite some poor results.

“The team morale is high as we have already beaten them in the warm-ups and that can give them a lot of confidence,” said Javed.

Singh, who will no longer be eligible to play for the Under- 19s due to age restrictions, says his highlight as captain was UAE ’s three-wicket victory over England in the tri-nations series in December 2013.

“I think beating England in the tri-nations series was a very good achievement for me since it was against a Test nation. Of course playing in the (Under-19) World Cup was a great experience and I will learn from it,” said Singh.

Singh, who took the captaincy reins in 2010, admits he hasn’t had any emotions so far throughout the tournament.

“I’ve been concentrating on the matches and I don’t really think of anything else,” said Singh.
