  • Matt Machan took two wickets for Scotland before hitting the winning runs.

Scotland finally recorded a first win at a global tournament at the 21st attempt with a rain-affected eight-wicket success against Hong Kong at the World Twenty20.

Hong Kong lost three early wickets before a stand of 49 between Mark Chapman (40) and Anshuman Rath (21) lifted them towards a respectable score.

Nizakat Khan hit back-to-back sixes off Matt Machan (two for 26) before holing out, and after a brief rain delay Hong Kong returned to take seven from the last three balls and finish on 127 for seven – close to captain Tanwir Afzal’s pre-match target of “130-plus” after winning the toss.

Further rain saw the target reduced to 76 from 10 overs and George Munsey blasted four early boundaries before falling for 19 from 11 balls.

Wicketkeeper Matthew Cross added 22 from 14, with a four and two sixes, and Kyle Coetzer (20 not out) and Machan, with 15no from just four balls, finished the job, Machan striking a winning six from the last ball of the eighth over.
