  • Leading light: Khurram Khan (l) will be pivotal to the UAE's chances in Bangladesh.

The UAE has announced its squad for the country's first Twenty20 World Cup in its history, with captain Khurram Khan charged with leading the 15-man squad in Bangladesh.

Khan, who was his country's leading run-scorer in T20 World Cup qualifying, will take his UAE team to Bangladesh from March 16 to April 6 where the side will feature in Group B alongside Zimbabwe, Ireland and the Netherlands with the winners of that Group qualifying for the Super 10 stage alongside the biggest cricketing nations in the world. If UAE manage to top their group then they will qualify for Group 1, where their opponents would be South Africa, Sri Lanka, England and New Zealand.

As reported by Sport360° earlier this month, Head Coach Aaqib Javed has included Rohit Singh and Mooaz Ayub Qazi in his squad for their first full-international call ups with the pair currently featuring in the U19 World Cup being played in the UAE.

21 year-old opening batsman Faizan Asif is recalled to the T20 squad having missed his country's successful qualifying campaign while Anjad Ali and Asadullah Shareef are the other new faces that didn't feature in any of the UAE's qualifying fixtures last year.

Notable absentees from the squad include stand-in ODI captain Saqib Ali and spinner Nasir Aziz who have both featured heavily in their country's colours across all formats of the game.

The team will depart from Abu Dhabi on March 9 and will play their first warm up match against Bangladesh three days later. UAE will then face Nepal on March 14 before their first group match against Netherlands on March 17. They face Ireland next on March 19 before their last group match against Zimbabwe on March 21.

Team: Khurram Khan (captain), Rohan Mustafa (vice captain), Ahmed Raza, Amjad Javed, Shadeep Silva, Amjad Ali, Swapnil Patil (wk), Shaiman Anwar, Vikrant Shetty, Manjula Guruge, Kamran Shahzad, Asadullah Shareef, Faizan Asif, Rohit Singh and Moaaz Ayub Qazi. Reserves : Fayyaz Ahmed, Chirag Suri, Mohammad Azam.
