    After a balanced day one, England resume on 310-6 after Alex Hales (83) and Joe Root (80) fell short of hundreds with the Sri Lanka bowlers managing to halt the hosts’ progress after losing the toss and being put in the field.

    England won the first Test comfortably and will be hoping Moeen Ali (28*) and Chris Woakes (8*) can push them to a score beyond the tourists.
