    ASHWIN’S 19TH FIFER IN TESTS

On Monday, when he bowled Ish Sodhi around the New Zealander’s legs, Ravichandran Ashwin completed his 19th five-wicket haul in Test cricket.

Playing in his 37th Test, he became the fourth quickest bowler in the history of Test cricket to register their 19th fifer. The only ones who got to the mark quicker than Ashwin are Sydney Barnes (24 Tests), Waqar Younis (31 Tests) and Clarrie Grimmett (36 Tests).

Just a day earlier, the 30-year-old had became the second fastest bowler to reach 200 Test wickets.

Ashwin ended with figures of 6/132 in New Zealand’s second innings as he registered his fifth 10-wicket match haul.

    MEMORABLE MATCH FOR SANTNER

Earlier this year, Mitchell Santner took four wickets for 11 runs as New Zealand shocked India at the ICC World T20. India were bowled out for just 79 as Santner, who wasn’t well known to Indian fans until then, was named the Man of the Match.

Santner at Kanpur showed the world that he wasn’t a flash in the pan and stood tall among the New Zealand players who took to the field.

The 24-year-old picked up five wickets and made handy contributions with the bat in both innings. He scored 71 in New Zealand’s second innings, which is his highest Test score.

He also registered his best bowling figures (3/94) in a Test innings during India’s first innings.

INDIA END DISMAL RUN AGAINST NEW ZEALAND

It would be fair to say that India will be relieved after registering a win against New Zealand, who have been a bit of a bogey team for India over the last few years.

In fact, this was India’s first win over the Blackcaps in any format of cricket since September 2012.

From then until the Kanpur Test, New Zealand had won one Test, four ODIs, two T20Is while drawing one Test and tying an ODI against the Indian side.

NEW ZEALAND – SLOW STARTERS IN INDIA

New Zealand continued their record of never winning the first Test of a series in India. The on-going Test series is their 11th in India.

The Kiwis have drawn five and lost six of the opening Tests that they have played in a series in India.

Overall, New Zealand have won just two out of 32 Tests in India, with 14 losses and 16 draws against their name.

    INDIA WIN 500TH TEST

India made their 500th Test a memorable one after beating New Zealand at Kanpur.

In 500 Tests, the Indian cricket team have won 130 matches and have lost 157. There have been 212 drawn Tests involving the Indian team and one famous tie against Australia at Chennai in 1986.

India’s win percentage of 26 is one of the lowest among all Test-playing countries. Only New Zealand, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh have done worse under the selected parameter.
