Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who wasn’t picked for the first Test at Kanpur, was the star bowler for India as he ended the day with figures of 5/33 as New Zealand trail India by 188 runs with just three wickets remaining.
Earlier in the day, just like in the Kanpur Test, India’s lower-order frustrated the Kiwis as the hosts managed to finish with 316 after being 239/7 at stumps on day one. Wriddhiman Saha registered his first half-century in Indian conditions.
Some afternoon rain meant that the Indian bowlers could get in just 34 overs on the day, but some accurate bowling from Bhuvneshwar meant that India are in the driver’s seat as they aim to wrap up the series having won the first Test.
Here are the top tweets of the day:
The best part of India's dominance in this game is the fact these aren't 'typical' Indian conditions. Top drawer stuff. #IndvNZ

From where they were, India will be very satisfied with 316. Happily, each time one of 7,8 or 9 is producing runs

Inspired selection from Virat as per the pitch. Rain/conditions just played into Bhuvi's hands. #IndvNZ

Can we all agree that Guptill is a horrible Test batsman yet.

He's had one decent innings against Bangladesh. That's it. #IndvNZ
Best thing about this Indian team is it has bowlers to exploit conditions helpful for pace as well as spin

Indian lower Order getting runs and Indian seamers getting early wickets which is bonus for India considering their actual strengths...
