Rohit Sharma produced a fine knock, probably the best of his Test career so far, to put India in the driver’s seat in the second Test against New Zealand at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
Coming into bat at 43/4, Rohit – along with Virat Kohli – brought some respectability to the Indian scorecard. Despite Kohli’s dismissal for 45, Rohit carried on to score 82, his highest Test score since 2013.
Just like in India’s first innings, Wriddhiman Saha was on hand to add valuable runs in the lower middle-order. The Bengal wicket-keeper was unbeaten on 39 at the end of day’s play.
Earlier in the day, Jeetan Patel gave Kohli and co. some headaches as he scored aΒ run-a-ballΒ 47 and added 60 runs for the eighth wicket with BJ Watling. New Zealand were eventually bowled out for 204, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami picking up five and three wickets respectively.
Here are the top tweets of the day:

Conventional numbers will put Kohli's knock as 45 runs...in reality, it's worth more than a century. Super knock. ππππ #INDvNZ

Superb innings by Virat. Demonstrating what he meant, when he said 'There is nothing like form, it's how you feel on a particular day.'

BUT, how many can he (they) bowl. Itβs tough work out there!
Many wrong umpiring decisions in #IndvNZ Test series. Wonder if there's a system that could be used to cut out these big mistakes π #Cricket

I love these kind of Tests. Having suffered through abominations like Ahmedabad 2009, this is what you want to see. #indvsnz

Had finally got going.
And then got dismissed by a Rajpal Yadav delivery.#INDvsNZ
Bowling short, having fielders at leg slip and fine leg. Ross Taylor is applying wicket-taking tactics from EA sports Cricket. #IndvsNZ

Rohit & Eden: The greatest love story in Indian cricket.
Murali Vijay is the first batsman to get out and India is effectively 12/2 considering Dhawan is there at the other end.#IndvsNZ

Trent Boult is giving Shikhar Dhawan a proper working over. Want to be a fly on the wall when both get together in Sunrisers' dressing room.
