Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane – the captain and vice-captain of the Indian Test team – combined to put on an unbeaten 167-run partnership as India ended day one of the third Test on 267/3.
Kohli ended the day on 103*, the Indian skipper’s 13th Test century with Rahane closing in on his century (79*) in the first ever Test to be staged at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore.
Earlier in the day, Murali Vijay was dismissed for just 10 after some sharp work from Tom Latham at forward short-leg. Gautam Gambhir and Cheteshwar Pujara looked good but failed to capitalise on their starts as they got out for 29 and 41 respectively.
Jeetan Patel, Trent Boult and Mitchell Santner picked up a wicket a piece for the Blackcaps.

'Discipline' is the word I'd use if I were to describe Kohli's knock in one word. Thanks for making Test cricket glamorous. 😊🙏👍👏👏

13th test 100 & 6th as the captain. He's just 27 with 5 years of prime still left in him. King Kohli, take a bow! #IndvsNz

Rahane will remember this innings for a long time. The real character comes out when the going gets tough...and it was tough for him today!

Gautam Gambhir has already done in one hour more than what Dhawan has done in last one year.

Virat Kohli scored a century so that Rohit Sharma won't be under any sort of pressure. Kohli's love affair with Sharma's continues #indvsnz
