  • MS Dhoni seemed to have found his mojo back in the previous ODI

India and New Zealand will face off in the fourth ODI of their five-match series at the JSCA International Stadium, Ranchi on Wednesday.

The Indians will be high on confidence after a superb run chase saw them take a 2-1 series lead at Mohali. Their two most reliable batsmen Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni came to the fore, with former scoring an unbeaten 154.

We now move onto Ranchi, which is captain Dhoni’s hometown. India are yet to lose a match at the JSCA International Stadium, winning two ODIs with one ODI ending in a No Result. The only T20I at the ground saw India defeat Sri Lanka by 69 runs earlier this year.

On the other hand, New Zealand will want to bounce back, knowing that they have more to offer, especially when it comes to batting. Batting collapses in all three matches have hindered the Kiwis’ chances big time in this series so far.

    TEAM NEWS, SQUAD, PREDICTED XI

INDIA SQUAD: MS Dhoni (c), Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli, Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Jayant Yadav, Amit Mishra, Jasprit Bumrah, Dhawal Kulkarni, Umesh Yadav, Mandeep Singh, Kedar Jadhav.

India have trimmed the squad that was picked for the first three ODIs from 15 to 14 players after Suresh Raina’s illness ruled him out of the series, with key bowlers Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami continuing to be rested.

After the good performance in the last ODI, expect the hosts to go in with more or less the same line-up that has played in each match of the series so far.

With just one wicket in three matches in this series, Axar Patel’s place in the XI could be in danger. If he is dropped, then Haryana all-rounder Jayant Yadav could get a game.

Dhoni is likely to continue batting at number four.

PREDICTED INDIA XI: Rohit, Rahane, Kohli, Dhoni (c/wk), Pandey, Jadhav, Pandya, Jayant, Mishra, Yadav, Bumrah.

NEW ZEALAND SQUAD: Kane Williamson (c), Martin Guptill, Tom Latham, Ross Taylor, Corey Anderson, Trent Boult, Doug Bracewell, Anton Devcich, Matt Henry, James Neesham, Luke Ronchi, BJ Watling, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee.

Unlike India, the Kiwis have made changes to their line-up in each match of the series so far. In the third ODI, Jimmy Neesham came in for Anton Devcich and did a very good job with the bat down the order.

The form of the middle-order batsmen is a huge worry for the visitors. Ross Taylor finally got some runs in the Mohali ODI, but Corey Anderson continues to struggle.

The Christchurch-born cricketer has scored just 31 runs from his three knocks in the series. Wicket-keeper Luke Ronchi, who showed good form in the Test series, has had a miserable ODI series so far – with his scores reading 0, 6, 1.

New Zealand might be tempted to bring Devcich back into the XI at the expense of Anderson. Devcich will also give the Blackcaps a bowling option, something that Anderson doesn’t offer currently because of a recent injury.

Kane Williamson will be hopeful of winning the toss tomorrow, having lost all six tosses on this tour so far.

PREDICTED NEW ZEALAND XI: Guptill, Latham, Williamson (c), Taylor, Anderson, Ronchi (wk), Neesham, Santner, Southee, Henry, Boult.
