Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja rescued India from a precarious situation and put on an unbeaten 67-run partnership for the seventh wicket to get the hosts to within 12 runs of England’s first innings total with four wickets in hand.
The match, though, is still in the balance as India have to bat last on a pitch which is expected to get worse for batting as the game progresses.
As expected, there was a lot of praise for Ashwin and Jadeja on Twitter, with former Indian cricketers Mohammad Kaif and Aakash Chopra hailing the ability of the duo to contribute with both bat and ball.
Commentator Harsha Bhogle noted that this partnership might not just be an important moment in the match, but also in the series.
Also, interestingly, England’s Adil Rashid has already notched up more wickets in this series than legendary Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne ever managed in a single Test series in India.
Here, we list some of the top tweets from the day.
