  • Mithali Raj.

Mithali Raj continued her fantastic run of form with a fine half-century to guide India to a comfortable 52-run win over Sri Lanka in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup at Bangkok.

Having won the toss and elected to bat first, the Indians scored 121/4 in their 20 overs. Raj, who scored an unbeaten 49 and 36 in the matches against Bangladesh and Pakistan respectively, top scored for India with 62 runs from 59 deliveries.

Raj found able support in the form of fellow opening batter Smriti Mandhana and Veda Krishnamurthy – both of whom who scored 21 each. The opening partnership contributed 46 runs to India’s total, while the Raj-Krishnamurthy partnership for the second wicket yielded 50.

Sri Lanka never really looked like chasing down the total, managing just 69 for the loss of nine wickets in their 20 overs. Only two batswomen – Prasadani Weerakkody and Dilani Manodara – got to double digits.

For India, spinners Preeti Bose and Ekta Bisht were the most impressive bowlers – both picking up three wickets each.

Having already qualified for the final with four wins in the bag, the Indian eves will face Nepal in their final league stage match on Friday.
