  • Yuvraj Singh and Virat Kohli.

Virat Kohli couldn’t have hoped for a better start as the permanent ODI captain of the Indian team after winning the first two matches against England to win the three-match series.

There were a lot of question marks raised before the start of the series about the selection of Yuvraj Singh, with the 35-year-old returning after a three year break since his last ODI.

But Yuvraj answered his critics in style in the second ODI with a career-best 150 which saw him win the Man of the Match award. Along with MS Dhoni, he put on a 256-run partnership, with the latter scoring 134.

Speaking after the match, Kohli insisted that this was exactly why Yuvraj was brought back into the team.

“That’s exactly what we envisioned when we got Yuvraj back into the side, that if these two bat together to bring in that stability and experience to the side, it’s going to do wonders for the team,” said Kohli.

“From 25-3, scoring four runs an over, to score 381 was outstanding.

“Two of the greats stepping up as they have done so many times for Indian cricket.”
