  • Kohli had a dream year in 2016.

Virat Kohli has been hugely successful as a batsman and a captain over the last 13 months and he has added another feather to his cap.

On Friday, it was announced that Kohli will be on the cover picture of the 2017 edition of Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack.

The cover sees the Delhi batsman playing a reverse sweep, which is a little strange considering that’s a shot he very rarely plays.

Kohli is the second Indian cricketer to have adorned the cover of the famous book, with the legendary Sachin Tendulkar having been on its cover in 2014 after his retirement.

The Indian captain had a dream 2016 – scoring 1215 runs in 12 Test matches at an average of 75.93. He also shone in limited overs cricket: notching up 739 runs in 10 ODIs at 92.37, and 641 runs in 15 T20Is at an average of 106.83 and strike-rate of 140.26.

He was named the Player of the Tournament at both the ICC World T20 and the Indian Premier League (IPL). He scored four hundreds in the latter.

As skipper, he led India to Test series wins in the West Indies and against New Zealand and England at home.
