  • CSA will be hopeful that superstars like de Villiers and du Plessis will play.

Following in the footsteps of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Big Bash League (BBL), Pakistan Super League (PSL) – South Africa are all set to get a new franchise-based T20 league of their own.

Known as the T20 Global League, Cricket South Africa (CSA) are hopeful that they can attract top T20 talent from across the globe as they attempt to attract money into the game in the country.

In the recent past, a number of South African cricketers have retired from international cricket and signed Kolpak deals with English county teams due to financial reasons.

The first edition of the league is expected to take part in late 2017 and will have eight teams.

CSA Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat is confidentย that the league will be able to catch the imagination of cricket fans from across the world.

“Early feedback from the marketplace suggests that there is tremendous interest in our Global Destination League from around the globe,” said Lorgat.

“This new #T20 Global Destination League offers great opportunities for investment in South Africa and South African cricket, and we are excited by the number of local and international superstars that will feature in the league.

“We are also confident that the window we have chosen will make it possible for franchises to attract top class players to South Africa.”
