  • Confident: Ajinkya Rahane.

India’s victory against Bangladesh on Sunday has put them in strong contention to clinch the three-match one-day international series.

Despite eight of the regulars rested from the series, India packed too much power for Mushfiqur Rahim’s side.

The series is seen as a chance for all the Indian fringe players to prove their mettle and be in contention for the World Cup spots next year.

Opener Ajinkya Rahane, who scored a fluent 64 in India’s success at Dhaka on Sunday, insists the boys are not looking that far ahead and focussed on winning the next two games of the series.

“We’ve got that momentum now and we just want to continue with it,” he said ahead of the second match at Dhaka.

Rahane added. “This (series) is a great opportunity for everyone to just express themselves. We don’t want to put too much pressure on ourselves.

“Every international game will count. So we are not thinking about it (making a statements). Whoever is here, they did really well in domestic cricket and that’s why they are here.

“I think youngsters and the newcomers are really talented and really hard working. It’s a good learning experience for everyone.”

Medium-pacer Mohit Sharma, who pulled out after bowling 5.4 overs, in the first match has been declared fit by the Indian team management, which means the visitors are likely to retain the same side.

Dhaka has experienced sweltering heat over the last few days, interrupted by spells of heavy rain such as the one that shortened the match on Sunday.

The forecast is no different today, with expected maximum temperatures in the high 30s and periodic downpours predicted.

The 19-year-old express pace bowler Taskin Ahmed is likely to make his ODI debut for Bangladesh as they look to break through the formidable Indian batting line-up.
