  • Pietersen has praised the leadership of his Quetta Gldiators' skipper.

Former England stalwart and Quetta Gladiators batsman Kevin Pietersen has backed Sarfraz Ahmed’s captaincy of the Pakistan cricket team.

Pietersen had some great words to say about his Quetta Gladiators skipper and urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to announce Sarfraz’s captaincy for the 2019 ICC World Cup in the near future to show their backing of his leadership qualities.

Speaking after his man-of-the-match performance against Islamabad United on Wednesday, Pietersen said: “All the players like him (Sarfraz), he has got a very good cricket brain.”

“The World Cup is only 12 months away so I think that it will be a very clever decision for the Pakistan board to say to Sarfraz that you are leading our team to the World Cup,”

”If you replace your captain after a captain does as well as Sarfraz does, the new person that comes in thinks that he can be replaced too before the next World Cup. From my experience, you back your captain, because if you back your captain your players feel safe too.”

Pietersen also said that he will not travel to Pakistan.

Pietersen also said that he will not travel to Pakistan.

The swashbuckling batsman, who also joined the commentator’s box during Wednesday’s action, said that he will not be travelling to Pakistan in case Quetta Gladiators qualified for the playoffs to be held in Lahore. Pietersen had replied in the negative when asked by his co-commentator if he would travel to the country if the need arises.

Playing in his final tournament before he calls time on all forms of cricket, Pietersen said he remained committed to Quetta Gladiators’ cause in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

“I am committed to Quetta because I signed a contract and when I sign a contract I fulfil my obligations of performing to the best of my abilities and that’s the bottom line. I am here to score runs and the team have been absolutely magnificent for three seasons,” he said.
