  • New Zealand cricket board has invited former USA President Barack Obama to watch the first Test against England that begins in Auckland on Thursday.

The former American premier is scheduled to visit New Zealand on Wednesday where he will meet Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern. He will then travel to Sydney on March 23 to meet Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull. Obama will receive an official welcome at the Government House in Auckland on Wednesday, a day before the first Test starts.

New Zealand board extended an invite to Obama, assuring him for a seat and a Black Caps jersey.

A tweet on the Black Caps’ twitter account read: “@BarackObama we hear you’re coming to NZ! Want to see something better than baseball? Our NZ cricket team is playing @englandcricket in a Test match from Thursday and we’d love you to come… have a seat and a shirt all set up for you”.

The two-Test series begins with a pink-ball match under lights at Eden Park and ends at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on March 30.

In 2009, Obama had met West Indies legend Brian Lara during a visit to Trinidad.
