  • England secured their first-ever whitewash over old foes Australia after winning the fifth and final ODI at Old Trafford in Manchester on Sunday by one wicket.

Jos Buttler scored a sensational unbeaten century (110) as England chased down Australia’s total of 205 after being nine wickets down. At one point, England were 114 for eight and all but out of the match.

Earlier, Australia’s openers Aaron Finch and Travis Head made an explosive start by racing away to 60 runs inside six overs before the former fell to Moeen Ali. The England off-spinner took four wickets in all as the Australia were bowled out for 205 inside 35 overs.

In reply, England were in deep trouble as they reached the mid-match break on 66-5. Pacer Billy Stanlake rattled the England top order before Buttler fought back.
