Rabada has added another feather to his cap.

South Africa pacer Kagiso Rabada has been crowned as Wisden’s Golden Boy for 2018 after another spectacular year in international cricket.

The young pacer clinched the award after a stellar year in which he climbed to the top of the ICC Test rankings for bowlers.

Currently lying in second spot behind England’s James Anderson, Rabada made history earlier this year when he became the youngest bowler to top the ICC rankings since the 19th century.

During South Africa’s recent Test series defeat to Sri Lanka, the 23-year-old broke Harbhajan Singh’s record in becoming the youngest bowler to claim 150 wickets.

Former South Africa pacer Alan Donald heaped praise on the youngster after he was awarded with Wisden’s Golden Boy title.

“We all knew in South Africa that Kagiso Rabada was destined for big things. I knew it was going to come, but I didn’t know it was going to come this quickly,” Donald told Wisden Cricket Monthly.

Rabada recently became the youngest bowler to claim 150 Test wickets.

“When Dale Steyn first broke through his consistency and the rate he was taking wickets at was quite frightening and the same is now happening with Kagiso. He’s just incredible, a machine really, and fantastic to watch.

“Kagiso is well on his way to becoming South Africa’s all-time greatest fast bowler. Going at the rate he is it’s a case of when rather than if he becomes our country’s leading Test wicket-taker and it will be a proud moment for me seeing this young man do that, a magnificent achievement for him and an inspiration for all young black cricketers in South Africa.”

Ganguly, Laxman and Tendulkar are current members of the CAC.

The BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) could be set for a shake up with current members Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman likely to step down from their roles.

According to a report by the Indian Express, the BCCI is set to appoint a new CAC whose members will be honorary instead of being paid.

Tendulkar, Ganguly and Laxman currently serve in paid positions of the CAC and they will be allowed to continue in their roles once they have adhered to BCCI’s conflict of interest rules.

At present, Ganguly serves as the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and he would need to step down from that role if he intends to continue as a member of the CAC. Similarly, Laxman serves as a mentor to IPL outfit Sunrisers Hyderabad and he would need to resign from that role in order to continue in the CAC.

In Tendulkar’s case, the maestro will need to recuse himself from the CAC as long as his son Arjun remains in contention for India’s U19 squad.

The CAC currently recommends names for the various selection panels along with coaches for the India men’s and women’s teams. The new CAC body is likely to be elected during BCCI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Both Ganguly and Tendulkar have a conflict of interest in their roles.

In its final order on the Lodha Panel recommendations for the functioning of the BCCI on Thursday, the Supreme Court of India stated that the CAC will continue to recommend names for the various selections panels in consultation with the CoA (Committee of Administrators).

“Until the elections to the BCCI take place, the CoA is empowered to consult with the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprising reputed former international cricketers and to constitute a committee of selectors,” the order had stated.

“The Men’s Selection Committee shall consist of five persons to be appointed by a Cricket Advisory Committee comprising of reputed former international cricketers identified by the BCCI at the Annual General Meeting.”

Bumrah is reportedly match fit for the Trent Bridge Test.

While the Test series against England might not be going according to plan for India, the visitors are set to be handed a boost for the third Test as pacer Jasprit Bumrah gets ready to return from his injury layoff.

The 24-year-old fast bowler has been out of action for some time now due to a thumb injury he sustained in the second T20 against Ireland in Dublin earlier this summer. After being ruled out of the limited-overs clashes against England, Bumrah was named in the squad for the first three Tests as he continued to nurse his thumb injury.

The pacer expectedly did not feature in the first Test and missed out on the second at Lord’s too despite being ‘bowling fit’ according to the team management.

Now, the Mumbai man is expected to feature in the third Test at Trent Bridge which gets underway on August 18.

According to a report by the Times of India, Bumrah is likely to be fit for the third Test and could replace Kuldeep Yadav in the line-up depending on the conditions on offer at Trent Bridge.

Rishabh Pant looks set to replace Dinesh Karthik in the third Test.

The report further goes on to add that wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik’s head could be on the chopping block with young Rishabh Pant being touted to replace the senior at Trent Bridge.

20-year-old Pant had a stupendous IPL campaign for Delhi Daredevils before some impressive showings for India ‘A’ in their recent tour of England. Following the injury to Wriddhiman Saha, Pant was given a maiden Test call-up to the India Test squad for the first three Tests as back up to Karthik.

With Karthik’s continued failure to perform with the bat so far on the tour, Pant could now be set to make his Test debut for India at Trent Bridge.
