  • A new chapter begins for Steve Smith.

Banned Australia star Steve Smith tied the knot with his long time partner Dani Willis in Sydney on Saturday.

The former Australia skipper took to Instagram to post a picture of the newly married couple.

“Today I got to marry my best friend. What an absolutely incredible day. Dani Willis looked unbelievably beautiful,” Smith wrote in the caption.

The prolific batsman had met Willis during the first edition of the Big Bash League (BBL) and proposed to her at the Rockefeller Center in New York last year.

The 29-year-old is currently serving a one-year ban from international and domestic cricket imposed on him by Cricket Australia following the ball-tampering scandal which occurred on the side’s tour of South Africa.

The controversy erupted in the third Test at Cape Town following which Smith and his deputy skipper David Warner were handed the bans by Cricket Australia. Protagonist of the saga Cameron Bancroft was handed a similar nine-month ban for his role in the incident.

Since then, Smith and Warner have been trying their hands in overseas T20 Leagues. Both the Aussies lent their participation in the inaugural edition of the Global T20 Canada league. Following the completion of the tournament, the pair then participated in the ongoing edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Smith, who turned out for the Barbados Tridents in the tournament, had deferred his impending marriage to make himself available for the CPL.

Despite being away from the international game since April this year, Smith continues to dominate in the ICC Rankings for Test batsmen where he is behind only India’s Virat Kohli at the moment.
