  • Pakistan team manager Moin Khan (L) speaks with Misbah-ul-Haq at the Sharjah cricket stadium earlier this month.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has removed Moin Khan as team manager ahead of the 2015 World Cup and appointed Naveed Akram Cheema in the role.

Moin, who is a former skipper as well, worked as head coach of Pakistan in the Asia Cup and World Twenty20 earlier this year and since then he had been serving in dual capacity of Chief Selector and team manager, which included an away tour to Sri Lanka and home series against Australia and New Zealand.

But there was criticism that he and his fellow selectors should follow the domestic tournaments more regularly in order to identify talent while the PCB has also started to remove officials from dual posts as a policy.

Moin met with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shaharyar Khan, Chairman Executive Committee of PCB Najam Sethi and Chief Operating Officer Subhan Ahmad to discuss his role on the future cricket tours.

The Chairman explained the PCB Governing Board’s decision on doing away with dual roles, and asked Moin to stay on as Chief Selector as part of the squad for the ICC World Cup 2015.

Commenting on the decision, Shaharyar said: “Moin has rendered excellent service in his capacity as Team Manager and it is extremely heartening to note that he has agreed to continue to work as Chief Selector. It was important for us to not only implement the Board’s decision on dual roles but also to provide continuity in policies; hence, the decision to send him as Chief Selector for the World Cup.”

Cheema has served as team manager previously as well and helped Pakistan to restore its integrity after teh episode of ‘spot-fixing’ in England.

Meanwhile, Moin stated: "I am pleased with the Board for reposing confidence in my ability and I go along with the decision of the Board on dual roles. My priority is to select a team that has the capability to win the ICC World Cup 2015 and together I hope we would be able to achieve this objective.”
