  • Abbas was the first to score three consecutive centuries in ODIs.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shaharyar Khan and Board of Governors (BOG) have approved the nomination legendary batsman Zaheer Abbas as ICC President for 2015-16.

Former PCB Chairman and governing board member Najam Sethi was in line to become ICC President in June but he pulled out his name and asked PCB and ICC to ahead with the idea of a legendary cricket from 2015.

ICC had decided to appoint a great cricketer as ICC President from 2016 which is why Sethi left and urged ICC to take the step on immediate basis.

“Zaheer Abbas has been a great servant for Pakistan cricket and he deserves to become ICC President,” Sethi told Sport360.

“I excused myself from the post because Pakistan’s next turn for ICC Presidency would have come after 10 years so I felt it was better to have a legendary cricket taking over the post from this term.

“I feel Zaheer has never got the same amount of international recognition which likes of Wasim Akram and others got so finally he is getting that deserving recognition for his service.”

Zaheer represented Pakistan in 78 Tests in his career and scored 5062 runs while managed 2572 runs in 62 ODIs and is regarded as Asian Don Bradman.
