  • IPL 2016 comes to an end for Mitchell Marsh

Adding to the growing list of injury woes in the Rising Pune Supergiants camp, Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of the rest of the IPL with a side strain. He is now the third player of the Pune team, after Kevin Pietersen and Faf du Plessis to have been hit by injury. Marsh will return home to recover ahead of Australia’s tour of the Caribbean in June.

“Once we have a better understanding of the extent of the injury we will be able to advise on his return-to-play time frames,” said Cricket Australia sports science and sports medicine manager Alex Kountouris.

Marsh has played only three of Supergiants’ seven games this season and has taken four wickets. His only outing with the bat saw him make a total of seven runs. Supergiants are currently languishing in the bottom half of the table and Marsh’s absence will have a serious impact on the team.

The Supergiants had signed up Usman Khawaja as a replacement for du Plessis and Pietersen. No replacement for Marsh has been named as yet.
